Chinchilla breeders for the fur market

CHINCHILLA PELT
Chinchillas are native animals from South America, which still reside in the wildlife of the Andean Region.
The species bred in captivity at the moment is the long tailed chinchilla (lanigera) that comes from several crossbreeds throughout the years meant to adapt their pelt to the demands of the market.
A chinchilla’s pelt is unique due to its characteristics, and it is therefore the most valued pelt in the fur market. Its design, which defines the chinchilla’s beauty, contrasts gradient colors from a dark back to grey flanks and a snow white belly. This characteristic, along with the softness and lightness of the fur, makes the chinchilla pelt unique and unmistakable.

CHINCHILLA BREEDING
Breeding these animals requires a specialized handling, in which an adequate nourishment and habitat (hygiene and ventilation) is fundamental. In order to obtain fur of the highest quality, the breeders handling is essential, since animals with the proper genetics must be utilized.
The breeder must know how to recognize the moment in which the animals show the ideal maturity and beauty to obtain the fur.
For decades, several crossbreeds have made possible the production of reproductive chinchillas with different genetics basis, such as the Standard Chinchilla (black mutation and beige mutation), among others.
Even though the Standard furs are the most popular in the market, lately the demand for furs from mutations is increasing.
